Charlotte Roimarmier was influenced by Latour who was pointing out the psychology of his subjects in his paintings so that she abandonned oil-based paint for pastel in her portraits. She pared down her studies from any decorations and embellishments in order to stay focused on a close analysis of personalities and to optimally transcribe the truth of physiognomy. Her ambition was clear : to make everybody sensitive to the models' inner life and to their essence.
After having assimilated the impressionist lesson by following the advices of Léandre, Lucas Désiré or Aman-Jean, Charlotte Roimarmier quickly asserted her personnality and her independance via bright oil-based paintings. The use of pearl whites, yellows and reds in her paintings both convey a striking impression of realism and an undeniable poetic dimension to the dahlias, peonies, roses and iris.
Charlotte Roimarmier was also an experienced landscapes painter. Her pictural technique demonstrates unique sharpness and a strengh of expression : the brushstroke thick and warm which makes the color really natural. Her painting was mainly focused on the region of La Flèche and Val de Loir which she particularly liked. Otherwise, her summer spent on the Albâtre coast in Normandy deeply influenced her and nurtured her creative inspiration.
